HeartCatch Precure - Episode 08 Released

Post by Magenta »

Wait, what is this HeartCatch thing? Oh right, it's that show we're like a month behind on. Carry on. So anyway, please enjoy and behold:
HeartCatch Precure!
Episode 08: The charismatic model sighs! But... why does she?
In which an irony loop is created, I make translation retcons to Desertrian speech patterns that were CLEARLY ALWAYS THAT WAY and Kumojacky advocates naturism.

Episode Notes:
  • For this episode I'd like to eschew the normal name segment - because Momoka, shockingly, doesn't really mean much of anything - and talk about idioms and things. There's a couple of good ones in this episode that I'd like to just explain cause I think they're kind of interesting.

The first is 'kono toori', which Rumiko uses at about 8:50 or so. This is always accompanied by a sort of prayeral motion because it does, literally, mean "Just like this." Basically, it's vocally pointing out the hand gesture indicating the pleading, begging nature of what they're asking, so the best way to convey it's meaning is to just expound it out to "I'm begging you!" or something of the sort. But note that it's always accompanied by the gesture - it's used a lot in this show, I'm noticing.

The second is Kumojacky's line at about 10:17 - specifically, 'hadaka ikkan'. This is an idiom that literally means to have nothing on you except your body - to be completely unarmed and unarmoured, using only your natural prowess. What makes it really fun in this context is that 'hadaka' literally means 'naked'. As such, by using it in the middle of Kobraja and Sasorina's discussion about clothes it generates... alternative meanings. I tried to convey this as best I can. :)

Also, are you liking the really eloquent Desertrian this ep? I felt it was a nice change to see poor Kaneda, the VA, actually get to speak something vaguely resembling words that might be spoken in a conversation for once, rather than having incoherent nonsense inflicted on her.

And anyone who's played a Dragon Warrior/Quest game: Yeah, don't worry. We were all thinking the same thing.
Anyway, enjoy the episode! More to come soon, mmkay? <3

Spoiler
I love how Erika doesn't call Tsubomi on the phone or wait till the next day to vent at her... No, she screams through the windows! XD Ah, always good to have your friend as a next-door neighbor.

Also, I am impressed with this show's usage of foreshadowing. Especially after I had dismissed said earlier scene as ....gibberish for lack of a better word.

I like it how Momoka basically was jealous of Erika for being able to have friends and have fun with them while Erika was jealous of Momoka for being a model. The two sisters want what the other sister has pretty ironic to me.

I'd agree with Erika & Momoka wanting to be in the opposite role. Though somehow having it as a monster based on make-up seems to fit, though would have been nice to see the photographer's camera equipment used instead. Sure it's an old cliché from one of the old BSSM episodes; and probably other anime/manga/toku as well.

They already used a camera-based Desertrian in episode 6, it froze people in time, even Cure Marine.

I still like the villan. Something like "I knew makeup was no good..."

I've been wondering this for a long time now.

Is it me, or do the Desertians kinda remind you of the Shadows from Persona 4?

The life of a covergirl isn't so easy, breezy, or beautiful after all.

It was nice to see that Tsubomi remembers what the Doll Desertrian said about Erika's frustrations. Tsubomi is definitely growing into her role as Cure Blossom with her use of different special attacks.

It probably makes me a dork, but my favorite part of the episode was when Marine finally uttered her own catchphrase. She seemed so pitiful a few episodes back when she realized she didn't have anything to say after Blossom said hers and vowed to come up with one. I'm glad they followed up on that.

Solid episode. I'm loving how consistent this show is in terms of balancing the humor and the heartwarming moments.
