Kamen Rider Fourze 37 released

I feel like this episode is an homage to the manga series "Twin Spica." Spica is a story about teenagers who are training to become astronauts. Maybe it's all in my head, but a lot of the scenarios and specifically, the girl pictured really does remind me of the manga. If you like a slice of life style manga, check it out. It's pretty much a jdorama in manga form.

Episode 37 released.

"Twin Spica" review

So like I said earlier, this is a slice of life manga. The focus is mainly on the characters and their interactions with each other. There are a few fantastical elements to it. The training that they go through is ridiculous, it sort of reminds me of the Hunter Test from Hunter X Hunter in that sense. But there's also a ghost in the story and stories about death, the afterlife, etc. Basically there is a mystery to a tragedy that occurs in the past that has rippling effects on events that occur in the present day.

But overall it's really heartfelt and sometimes emotionally burdensome. Like, "Oh man, that was kind of heavy and sappy. Let's read some more Full Metal Alchemist to cleanse the palate." But that can be good sometimes.

There is also a lot of little neat things that the author throws into the manga. Like at the end, there's an extra story that took me three volumes before I realized that it was about the author (I had thought it was some side character that I had forgotten about.) Plus, the three main female protagonists names spell the author's given name (Realized that today.) Apparently this series didn't sell very well, but maybe check it out and see if you like it. It's probably a good side dish for Fourze.

Oops, Go-Busters 13 HD released too

Released last night, in case you missed it.

Dogu-chan 6 released

Kamen Rider Fourze 36 and Quiz 1 and Junction 3 released

The Junior Kamen Rider Squad?!

So you might notice the torrent is twice as big compared to usual. That's because it includes the Fourze Quiz 1 bonus from the Blu-ray. I think people will enjoy the segment since it shows how well the Fourze actors get along with each other. Plus you (and me) get to learn a bit about Rider history.

Japanese is awesome, but it shouldn't be the only tool in your bag

So I was talking with someone who read my previous post explaining why I decided to change the phrasing in Fourze to "Space kitaaa!". This post in fact.

To clarify, the point of the post isn't that every word needs to be left in Japanese. That would be bad and I feel like people exaggerate that point when complaining about our subs.

Imagine that translation is like being a mechanic of some sort. If you reach in your bag and you only have one tool, be it the "translate everything into English" tool or "leave everything in Japanese" tool, you would be an ineffective mechanic, because you only have one tool in your bag. That was the real point of my last post. Just be open to having more than one tool in your bag. You have to approach every situation when translating in a brand new way, because every situation is different. Too much constraint is a bad thing.

Think about it this way. I once watched a Chinese movie (I think it was Storm and Cloud). So whoever did the subs for that translated the main characters as Wind and Cloud. Fine, I can see what you were going for there. Someone could name their kids Wind and Cloud since those are beautiful things. But the bad guy's name was translated to Conquest.

Since he was the bad guy, his Chinese name must have meant "conquest" in Chinese, but it comes off as an extremely goofy decision. That translator ruined that character, because it became too meta. That guy's parents didn't name him Conquest, the writer who knew he was the bad guy gave him a name that also happened to mean Conquest. You can't just write out that guy's name like that without it bludgeoning the viewer on the head with its meaning.

Man, I love American special effects shows. And the bible! Let's sample a quote from the actual show:

You know these children, Father, and you know their hearts. And I just thank you for their desire to be used by you.

AkibaRanger 06 released

The actress for Kozukozu has her friend from DANCEROID join. It's Itokutora as Ikura as Umeko! (Ikura is Japanese for "salmon roe"). Here's the blog post this picture is from. Come to think about it, maybe she's always been there and this is the first time they said her name? I dunno.

Oh yeah, we're also looking for splashes for Akiba, since we're running out. You can always submit them to the thread about it.

So let's talk about Akiba 6 in the release thread.
