Moving stuff to Nyaa

So some of you might have noticed we've been posting old torrent files to Nyaa. They're not new files or anything. Just moving stuff over in preparation to transfer servers. We haven't been using our tracker much lately so it just makes more sense to not carry it into the new server. Just posting files there for posterity

Why we were down for a few days

According to our tech guy (forgive me if I get any of the details wrong) but it seems like a hard drive or two in our server failed, and it took a few days to pull the backups and get the site restored. The dying hard drive might explain why the site has felt sluggish the last month or two.

So nothing as dramatic as this, although the image itself never stops being funny. Thank you to those of you for being patient and understanding during these down times

Remember...

Remember as the CEO king of all tokusatsu, if you post anything without my permission, our league of super lawyers have an obligation to sue the pants off you. Also you should feel bad, and your parents should feel bad

A Short Message

This is a reminder that as TV-Nihon is not the copyright holder on anything previously subbed, we are unable and unwilling to copyright strike anything on streaming websites. Anyone is perfectly free to upload any of our old releases to a streaming site, with the caveat that copyright strikes from Toei or other copyright holders are always a potentiality.

x265 feedback

So I was told that x265 can put in mp4 containers. Apparently mp4 containers are more compatible with stuff! So we'll probably do that instead of mkv, since we release hard subs anyway

x265

So after some testing, we've decided to do the following:

1080p releases - These will be done with the x265 encoding. Probably better quality with a slight reduction in file size. It just takes a longer time to encode

720p releases - Still h264 encoding, like what we do now

SD releases - We're dropping support of SD. Honestly, not many people download them, so hopefully this decision won't affect too many people

Encoding changes for the new year

I'm thinking of releasing the 1080p releases in x265 format next year, keeping the 720p as h264, and dropping the SD

Wiki spambots

Hi! If you've applied to edit our wiki recently and got banned instead, lemme know. We've been getting spambots applying and so I've just been deleting them without thought

21st anniversary reminders

Our stuff is supposed to be free! Ideally, don't pay for it!

Torrents: You can find most of our releases on our personal tracker. If not here, maybe some of our releases are on the Cat place. We highly recommend using a Seedbox to obfuscate your downloading habits.

Dropbox: If you have a Dropbox account, we can add you to our release folders (warning, can be big)

Other ways to get releases? If you look around, I'm sure there's other places archiving our files or streaming them somewhere.

We still talk about releases. Join our forums and talk about the latest toku release with us. The more the merrier!

We have a wiki! Sometimes there's cool trivia on it! It's also fun to see actor info and stuff

Torrent issues

I've received several messages saying people are having trouble downloading this week's releases

If you are having difficulty, can you describe your problem including

1) What torrent program or seed box you're using

2) Whether you're using the magnet link or the actual link?

Someone suggested using the actual link, so maybe there's issues with the magnet link? As far as I know, the torrents are seeded

Toei's henchmen finally got us

Not really, but our capper computer of almost seven years has finally died. It's the computer that we did all our work on, which did so much encoding for us over the years. We think it might have overheated, somehow destroying the motherboard and the two drives in it (devastating).

We know these are difficult times and there are probably better causes out there right now, but if you could throw a few bucks our way, we'd really appreciate it. We're scrambling to rebuild the capper so we don't know what the final cost will be since we're not sure which parts are salvageable. Thanks to those of you who can donate, and we appreciate those of you who are still watching.

Edit: I've been informed that our donation button is broken. If you're interested in donating in the mean time, feel free to e-mail me.

TN on Archive.org?

I've been told that some of our files are on Archive.org. As far as I know, none of our staff uploaded them, so we can't guarantee that all the files are there, but it's cool to have options!

Donation Drive Complete!

Thanks to a fan for double donating to complete our donation drive! I know it's kind of a weird year to be asking for so much, but sometimes that's just how much the materials cost to run the site.

I especially appreciated the donations that came with messages of encouragement. I always love hearing from fans and learning about where you're from or what series you started with, etc. Hope to see you guys on the forums and if not, hope you guys are still enjoying the stuff we're still putting out.

Thank you to our donators and thank you to our fans!

Giving credit where it's due on our anniversary

https://www.themarysue.com/translators-deserve-credit/

There's a translator's day?

I think we can all agree that I receive too much credit as the faceman for the group. From timers who make sure the captions don't fly by so quickly that your eyes bleed, to editors and qcers who offer corrections, suggestions, and everything inbetween to make the final product as good as it can be. Fansubbing is a collaborative effort and there are too many people who don't get the acknowledgement and credit that they deserve. If the subs were just the translations are I wrote them out in my first draft, the quality would be a whole lot poorer for it

#TV-Nihon turns 19 / Donation drive

Today #TV-Nihon turns 19. It's a bit of a bittersweet celebration considering that we're no longer working on the shows that made this site famous in the first place. But we've been working on GIGA toku and the jdorama Komi Can't Communicate. I subbed a few commercials in my free time too. So hopefully people are still enjoying the stuff that we are putting out. Thank you to everyone, both staff and fans, who are still sticking around with us today.

But we soldier on. And running the site costs money. For this year's donation drive, we're shooting for $980 dollars. This covers server costs, seedbox for seeding our torrents, buying materials, software licenses etc. We're hoping to upgrade the backend of our site too. I know it's been a rough couple of years, but we appreciate any kind of support you guys can give. Thanks!

No Toei files here

Just a reminder that because of the copyright problems with Toei, we're not hosting any Toei files on this site anymore. If you look around, you can probably find that other people have archived it in other places.

Little bit of forum clean-up (And updates?)

On a personal note, I'm part-time now! Hopefully more time to work on subs?

Forumwise, Super Heroine Cooking and Giga Tokusatsu have their own forums now. Radical! Sadly, it looks like episode 12 will be the last of Heroine Cooking. New Giga series, Dinnovator, has its opening out now. It looks alright!

Para Hero GandD is all translated in QC (all three of them!)

What else am I working on? Hmmm...

Toku Music Project

Our forum member Ashki  is looking for some help with a toku CD project:

I'm looking for other enthusiasts to join me in my quest to create the definitive tokusatsu music archive. If you:

* have albums and can provide high quality scans of the discs and media, and/or provide fresh rips of the tracks (FLAC or 320kbps, I can easily convert the former while editing)
* know of good resources that have high quality rips or have knowledge about rare releases or variants
